The UK is experiencing a recession and it is only getting worse, so is it wise to spend money on a loft conversion in this time?
Recession only benefits the rich of our society, the rich get richer and the poor (middle class) get poorer. This is because our money, which we have saved up in the bank over the years, is losing value because of inflation and is deteriorating. While the rich have invested in appreciating assets which, while in recession, the assets are increasing in value for example real estate or land purchases. However the common person will not have the money to invest in appreciating assets so we are stuck.
An option out of this is to invest into your house and find ways to increase your house value which will appreciate in value gradually over time. What better way to do this that converting your loft! It is quick, and simple compared to extending your house for example and can potentially save you a lot of money in the long term. The important thing is to make sure the money in the bank is not left there to lose value but to invest it somewhere reliable.
Loft conversions can be very expensive, while it may not be the same price as buying land or a house it still might be a struggle for many house holds to fork out £30,000+ to invest in their home.
However, because a loft conversion adds value to your home in effective and efficient manner banks are usually very willing to give you money to invest quite easily. Especially if the banks you are asking to loan from are your mortgage bankers, they would usually give you the loan while slightly increasing your monthly mortgage rate. This is because the banks do not want their money sitting around losing value either and when they hear you are looking to invest into a loft conversion, they know that this will increase the value of the asset and therefore will be a profitable for everyone converting your loft using their money. So call your bank and have their thought on the matter.
The beauty of how we can complete loft conversions quickly is partly because there is usually no need for planning permission to complete them as planning usually takes a lot of time in building projects. Loft conversions do no need planning permission as long as the work being done does not alter or extend past the original roof space of the house. So after the first home visit and after we understand exactly want you want we will be able to determine if planning will be required.
Building regulations is required to make sure the work being done is safe and suitable to be lived in. Unlike planning permission there is usually no need to wait before the work starts and we will make sure all the paper work is following current regulations for a smooth efficient process.
Attics usually have a loft of space in which people do not fully utilise, meaning in most houses it is filled with vintage clutter and suitcase only accessed when packing for holiday. With a brand new loft conversion this will all change.
Nobody knows your house better than you do, some of the clutter may be transferred into a shed or garage space to free up the room inside the attic. However, not all the clutter has to be moved permanently, there will be built in storage in lofts where there space beneath the roof which can not be accessed will be closed off and turned into storage unless stated otherwise. So moving some items to temporary locations until the work is complete to move them back into the storage spaces is something many people implement to their designs.
